Joe Creegan was inaugurated as LIA President 2023 at LIA’s AGM on 30th March, following Gerry Moran’s 15-month tenure. Head of Corporate Life & Pensions for Zurich, Joe started his career in the statistical department of Irish Pensions Trust (now Mercer) in 1980 and moved to a market-facing role within Irish Pensions Trust in 1987, followed by a pension sales role in Eagle Star in 1992 which eventually led to his current role.

Speaking of his inauguration, Joe said: ‘I intend to use my time in office to promote the importance of life-long learning in a profession which has seen significant changes over the last number of years. I would like to focus on those starting out in their career and demonstrate that ours is a wonderful business in which to develop a successful career. I want to support the work of LIA in promoting financial wellbeing to the wider community in light of the significant challenges Ireland is facing in terms of pension provision and financial planning for individuals and their families. Finally, I hope to support LIA’s network of regional committees which provide a vital infrastructure across the country to support students and members.’

Joe has been an active member of LIA since attending his first networking event in the mid-1980s. After achieving the QFA designation he became involved as an exam corrector on the tax module of the FLIA and later the QFA Pensions module, in addition to supporting students with tax tutorials for a number of years. He holds Associateship of the Irish Tax Institute (AITI), Fellowship of the Irish Institute of Pension Management and the Certified Financial Planner™ designation. Joe was appointed to LIA’s Board of Directors in 2018.
