Event Accreditation

How it works

The purpose of a CPD scheme is to keep a qualification current and to ensure that those who qualified in the past are as knowledgeable as those qualifying today. Therefore, the content of CPD hours must be directly relevant to providing advice to consumers on retail financial products. In the context of the Minimum Competency Code, this means that the content must be related to the knowledge requirements set out in the Minimum Competency Code for the categories of retail financial product in respect of which the designation is recognised.

Understanding the importance of Continuous Professional Development (CPD), it's vital that CPD hours remain directly relevant to retail financial product advice, in line with the Minimum Competency Code (MCC).

By following these guidelines, you can ensure a smooth and successful application process for CPD accreditation of your external events.

1. Completion of Application Form:

Obtain and fill out the CPD accreditation application form or request it via email at cpd@lia.ie

2. Pre-Approval Recognition:

If your event has already been approved by The Institute of Banking (IOB) or The Insurance Institute (III), simply forward their accreditation approval to cpd@lia.ie

3. Category Specification:

Clearly indicate the retail financial product category(ies) that your event covers, as per the MCC's guidelines.

Once submitted, your application will be reviewed, and you will receive feedback within 10 working days.

If approved, an LIA accreditation code will be issued for attendees to log their CPD hours.

The event must be directly relevant to selling or advising on the listed financial product categories.

Adhere to the minimum and maximum duration limits for CPD accreditation.

Application Timing: Apply for accreditation before the commencement of online events.

Design and Interaction: Ensure the event is well-designed and interactive, with provisions for verifying participant engagement.

Examination Criteria: Non-LIA exams will be assessed for relevance and, if applicable, can contribute up to 8 CPD hours.

Annual Application: CPD codes are valid for the current year only. Reapply for recurring events annually.

Documentation: Provide course materials or syllabus as needed for the review process.

Fill out all sections, including event details, duration, target audience, and relevant categories.

Emphasize the direct relevance to financial product advice.
