CPD Requirements
If you hold an LIA designation on 1st January, your CPD requirement for that year will be 15 hours total, with a minimum of 1 hour in ethics and a minimum of 1 hour in each category of accreditation relevant to the designation you hold.
Please note that if you are working in the financial services industry you may not be meeting Central Bank MCC requirements if you do not apply for your designation(s).
Ways of obtaining CPD hours with LIA

- Click on the LIA Elevate tab at the top of the page.
LIA host live online CPD events over the course of the year. Our CPD events cover all MCC categories, providing you with a great way to update your knowledge and to meet your annual CPD requirements. Once an event is attended for its full duration, the CPD hours will be logged to your record.
Start increasing your knowledge now:
- Go to www.lia.ie and sign in.
- Click on the LIA Elevate tab at the top of the page.
- Select the event.
- Follow the steps to complete the transaction.
- If you have attended an event which has an LIA accreditation number (e.g. LIAXXXXX_2024) it has been successfully approved by LIA for CPD and you can log these hours on your CPD record.
- If you do not have an accreditation number, please contact the event organiser/speaker who may seek CPD approval from LIA. If the event you have attended has been approved by IOB or The Insurance Institute, please email the relevant accreditation code to cpd@lia.ie and we will confirm LIA’s equivalent code which you can then add to your CPD record.
CPD Annual Update
The CPD Annual Update is an annual learning resource designed to keep members informed of key regulatory, legislative, and industry developments. It is completed online through your LIA Elevate Learning Centre.
You will receive 4 hours of CPD in categories 1 – 8, including the Credit Union and Debt management categories. Additionally, 1 hour is available in the PTP category for members who hold this designation exclusively.
Your CPD hours are added to your CPD record automatically. You do not need to record the hours yourself.
To access the CPD Annual Update:
- Log into your LIA profile and access the LIA Elevate platform via a dedicated tab on your dashboard
- The CPD Annual Update will be available for you in your Learning Centre.
- Simply click ‘Launch’ and follow the steps provided.
After reading the manual, please ensure to sign and submit the declaration confirming that you’ve read the full update. The CPD hours will then automatically be added to your LIA CPD record.
No. Your CPD hours are automatically added to your CPD record once you complete all steps of the CPD Annual Update in your Learning Centre in LIA Elevate.
The CPD Annual Update is usually released in late August each year.
Members will receive an email notification once the new edition is available each year. You can also find it directly in your Elevate Learning Centre at any time after release.
On Demand Events
Congratulations!
Once you’ve completed an online CPD event including successfully passing the associated quiz, a message will pop up confirming this with a prompt to download your Certificate.
You will also receive an email on completion. In the messages tab in LIA Elevate, you can also find copies of these.
Your LIA CPD log will automatically update to reflect the completion of this CPD On-Demand Event. You do not have to log CPD for this, it is automatically done for you
Once you’ve completed an online CPD event including successfully passing the associated quiz, a message will pop up confirming this with a prompt to download your Certificate.
To check your completed content after, go to your Learning Centre and you’ll now see the content has moved to the Completed tab. Here you can download a list of your completed learning if required or you may download your certificates directly from here also. You will also receive an email on completion. In the messages tab in LIA Elevate, you can also find copies of these.
You are allowed retake the quiz as many times as you need.
Please note that if the module has logged with an asterisk after the code, it indicates that the module is not applicable to your designations and will not be offset against your CPD requirement. To check your requirement, go to your CPD record and scroll down to the summary grid at the bottom of the page. The categories in which you are accredited have a number in the requirement field. Please email cpd@lia.ie with the name of the on-demand event and your LIA member number and we will investigate the issue immediately and get your CPD log updated.
Logging CPD hours
If the event you have attended has a LIA accreditation number (LIAXXXXX_Year) then it has been approved by LIA for CPD and you can add this to your CPD record. To do this:
- Sign into the members’ area of our website;
- Click on the tab ‘CPD Log’ on the top menu and choose the Log CPD hours option;
- Enter the code into the accreditation number box and click add;
- Click save at the end of the page to ensure the events are recorded correctly
Successful completion of any online CPD events in LIA elevate or indeed by attending any of our Live Events or In-Person events, the CPD will be automatically applied to your CPD log. Therefore you do not need an LIA code for these.
Contact cpd@lia.ie with the details you have relating to the event. We can search our database to locate the accreditation. Alternatively, you can contact the organiser to find out if they requested CPD accreditation from LIA for the event. If the event has not been accredited for CPD, you (or the event organiser) can click here to apply for CPD accreditation.
The LIA CPD record will only accept LIA codes. Email the IOB code to cpd@lia.ie and we will then issue you an LIA code to add to your LIA CPD record.
Check the code is in the correct format LIAXXXXX_year, If the code will still not record for you, please contact the LIA CPD team for assistance at cpd@lia.ie.
Please click the remove option on the CPD log beside the incorrect event.
Yes, you should keep a copy of confirmation of attendance for all non-LIA events, as these will be required if you are randomly selected as part of the annual CPD audit.
Back-up documentation is not required for all LIA events you either attended in person or completed online.

Annual CPD return
All CPD must be completed by 31st December each year, however the closing date to submit your CPD annual return is 31st January of the following year.
- Click on the tab ‘CPD Log’ from the top menu and click on ‘Submit Annual Return’;
- When you scroll down on your CPD record there is an option to submit annual return (once the submission period has opened).
Yes, you must submit a CPD return each year irrespective of how much CPD you have completed.
Submit the annual CPD return in any event. It will be recorded as a shortfall and the uncompleted hours will carry into the following year’s requirement.

- If this is your first shortfall, there is no penalty once you complete the additional hours the
- following year (along with your ‘normal’ annual requirement);
- If this is your second shortfall within a 5-year period, your designation will be suspended until all
- the catch-up hours from the previous year are completed.
- If this is your 3rd shortfall in a 5-year period, your designation will be removed until all catch-up hours from the previous year are completed and the current year’s CPD requirement is also met. Please note your designation(s) will remain Suspended until a compliant CPD return is made – once made the Suspension will automatically remove (from 1st January the following year).
Applying for a pro-rata reduction in CPD hours
Yes, we can apply a pro-rata adjustment to your CPD record if you have been ill, on carer’s leave, parental/adoptive leave or maternity leave in a calendar year for more than four consecutive weeks.

Annual CPD Audit
The annual audit is a Central Bank requirement. The selection for the CPD annual Audit is completely random and totally automated/computerised.
You are not required to provide back-up documentation for the LIA events you attended. However you must provide back-up documentation for all non-LIA events and return the completed audit form.
