The Specialist Investment Adviser (SIA) designation is a progression route for those who hold the QFA designation and is designed for anyone who wants to take their Investment Management knowledge to the next level, beyond minimum competency requirements.
Delivery and Assessment
This part-time online course consists of a single module, delivered one evening per week over a 12-week period.
Assessment is conducted on a continuous basis through three components: the first and second exams each contribute 25% to the final grade, while the final exam accounts for the remaining 50%.

Award and Designation
Upon completion, participants receive a Certificate from ATU Sligo and will be awarded the Specialist Investment Adviser (SIA) designation by LIA.
*Students must hold an active QFA designation to hold the SIA designation.
CPD
8 Hours Continuous Professional Development (CPD) is awarded on successful completion of this course.
Progression
Those that successfully complete this course will receive a module credit against the Investment Management module on the prestigious Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Planning - LIA's gateway to achieving the internationally recognised financial planning designation, Certified Financial Planner™ professional.

This module offers a comprehensive exploration of investment management, providing participants with the knowledge and tools to understand and navigate the complexities of financial markets. It begins with the role of investment and an in-depth look at various asset classes, investor types, and investment structures, including emerging markets like cryptocurrencies.

The module also covers practical aspects such as portfolio management, property management, and alternative investments, including socially responsible investing. It culminates in strategies for portfolio construction, investment performance measurement, and effective management tailored to diverse client needs.

Entry Requirments
Relevant 2.2 honours degree (level 8) in business, finance or in a numerate discipline (such as mathematics, physics or engineering)
OR
Equivalent relevant professional qualification:

Qualified Financial Adviser (QFA) with three years’ relevant work experience obtained in the life assurance or financial services industry.

In order to obtain the SIA designation students must hold an active QFA designation and LIA membership.
